The things that are easy for us are often things that we take for granted. We are told that when things are easy they just don't have that much value, true value comes from working really hard at things that are difficult and you're maybe not so great at until you become good at them. And while there is some truth in this, like you obviously want to work hard and deliver on your promises, I'm not saying stop working hard at your job or in your relationships or business... the thing is that very often we forget to include the things that we find easy!
For the longest time I thought I had to work really hard at bettering myself at things I didn't really like doing so that I could get great at them and then hopefully one day like doing them. So I ditched my natural way of thinking and did my best to be like everyone else and think like them too! Great plan! Not. This attempt at thinking like other people included me trying to be very linear in my business approach, doing things in an orderly fashion, and general filing away of information whether it was in my head, on my computer or in a filing cabinet! For those of you who know me, you will know that my brain functions a little different. I don't have a linear way of thinking, so trying to apply that to my life and work meant that I missed deadlines, got confused, confused people around me, and was generally miserable.
What is easy for me however is creating from chaos. And by chaos I don't mean crazy disorganisation and mayhem, I mean the wonderfully non-linear way of thinking that can be called chaotic. So instead of trying to linearise things into lists, order by numbers, or even dates, I began to embrace the non-linear approach that my brain naturally goes to. I started to allow myself to have the full picture of everything that I needed to accomplish in my day, and oversee it all in my mind. Then it was very easy to see which item needed to be looked at next. The best way I can describe it is like a spider diagram in my mind that is in constant motion with lots of different sections that aren't ordered but are organised.
As a business consultant this is one of the greatest ways that I work with clients. I am able to use my overview of every element of their business (which also includes their daily life and things they would like to make time for outside of their work) and I am able to see which elements can grow, when the time is to do them, and every detail of what has to be instituted for that thing to grow. I used to think this was not a talent since I couldn't describe said 'planning' as a list, or in an ordered way. However, everyone I knew that was trying to create their business from that ordered way, wasn't getting the results they were looking for.
So, what if what you're great at is so easy for you because it's a talent you have and not something to be ignored or discarded? And what if it's what the world is waiting for? If we keep doing things the same way and only a bit differently, we will keep getting the same results.
As Gary Douglas the Founder of Access Consciousness says, 'the thing that is so easy for you is what can make you the most money'.
What is so easy for you that you're discounting it as though it has no value? And what steps can you take to re-adding, or expanding the use of that talent in your life today?
